Hair & Beauty Tips from Experts at the Butterfly Studio!

Jun 29th, 2009 | By Seventeen.com Article Feed | Category: From Your Favorite Magazines

We just got back from The Butterfly Studio in NYC,
where we chatted with Kattia Solano, the salon’s owner, and Francesca,
the salon’s senior makeup and eyebrow specialist. Francesca has been doing
stars’ makeup for 20 years — including Mariah Carey’s! Check out their
summer hair and makeup tips:

17: What are some quick and easy (but still cute!) summer hairstyles?

Kattia:
The undone, wavy influence is really hot right now. Towel-dry your hair
so it’s about 75% dry, and apply a leave-in conditioner or gel.
Separate your hair into two sections, then loosely braid each section.
Blow-dry your braid pigtails, and when you’re done, take out the braids
to get a gorgeous “S” curl without the puffy volume at the top of your
head. I also love ponytails for the summer! Don’t just stick with one,
though — you’ll get bored. Try twisting back the front section of your
hair, then pushing it forward and clipping it there with a butterfly
clip. Tie the rest of your hair back — including that front section —
in a fresh, crisp pony. Tuck several sections on top of your head
forward to boost fullness.

17: Our makeup always gets gross and runny in the summer! What are some tips to avoid that?

Kattia: Keep it fresh. Focus on one part of your face, like stronger lips with
light eyes or vice versa. Smoky, dark eyeliner looks great with light
pink lips. Or try a fluorescent liner, like electric blue or green —
it’s so 80s!

Your parents are FINALLY letting you go on vacation! Without them! It only took months of bargaining (“I promise I’ll mow the lawn everyday!”) guilt-tripping (“I’ll be the only one who isn’t going!”), and down-on-your-knees pleading (“Please, please, please!”).img src=”http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/beinggirl_RSS/~4/dQ8xT2W2cfs” height=”1″ width=”1″/

Michael JacksonToday in the fashion closet, we are blasting our favorite Michael Jackson songs like Rock with You, Billie Jean and Bad and doing the Thriller dance and moonwalk. We are celebrating Michael’s life and immense talent.
